STOLEN ITEMS LODGES TWO BARREN COUNTY MEN IN JAIL
On Monday November 24th at approximately 9:00 a.m. the Barren County Sheriff's Department responded to Riley's garage approximately five miles south of Glasgow on Scottsville Road.
Upon arrival the deputy learned that two sets of wheels and tires had been stolen from vehicles while they were sitting in the parking lot.
There was evidence and information gathered at the scene which lead the deputy to a residence on Tartan Way where they made contact with Eli C. Mayes, 20, and Cory N. Shaw, 19, both of Glasgow. While interviewing both suspects they confessed to their involvement along with a juvenile on how they went to the garage in the early morning hours and stole the wheels leaving the vehicles sitting up on blocks. The deputies recovered one set of wheels and tires on Hume Way and the other on Beech Tree lane.
Mayes and Shaw were both arrested and charged with two counts of theft by unlawful taking from over $300, unlawful transaction with a minor 2nd degree and two counts of criminal littering. Both suspects were lodged in the Barren County Correctional Center.
A juvenile petition was signed on the juvenile for two counts of theft by unlawful taking over $300 and two counts of criminal littering.

Park City man arrested on gun charges
Saturday afternoon Barren County Sheriff's deputies responded to a residence on Red Cross Road due to a report of a drunk and disorderly individual threatening to kill his parents with a gun.
When the deputy arrived he located 54-year-old Donnie Reed of Park City in the back yard of the residence. Reed was taken into custody without incident.
Upon further investigation the deputy learned that Reed is a convicted felon and had two firearms in his bedroom in the residence. When the deputy searched the bedroom a loaded handgun, a high-powered rifle and ammunition were recovered.
Reed was charged with Alcohol Intoxication In The 1st Degree and Possession Of A Handgun By A Convicted Felon. He was lodged in the Barren County Correctional Center.
The incident was investigated by Deputy Steve Runyon who was assisted by Constable Gary Gillon.

One jailed on drug charges
On Friday morning Barren County Deputy Steve Runyon noticed two men sitting in a vehicle parked just off the West side of the public square. Runyon observed the men and felt they were acting suspiciously. Upon approaching the vehicle he was able to see a mirror with a white, powdery substance on it, which was later identified as cocaine.
The driver, 33-year-old Jeremy N. Green of Park City, was found to have approximately 14 grams of cocaine and a baggie of marijuana concealed on his person. A search of the vehicle revealed a set of electronic scales, rolling papers and other paraphernalia.
Green was charged with Trafficking In A Controlled Substance 1st degree (cocaine), Possession Of Marijuana and Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia 1st degree. He was lodged in the Barren County Correctional Facility.
The incident was investigated by Deputy Steve Runyon who was assisted by Detective Ron Lafferty of the Barren County Drug Task Force and Sergeant Rodney Sponhouse and Captain Joey Crews.

Crash injures three
Three people were transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital following an apparent head-on collision Friday morning. 17-year-old Rachel Allen of Glasgow was driving a 2000 Kia Sportage East on New Bowling Green Road when she lost control on the wet pavement. The Allen vehicle veered into the path of a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by 38-year-old Mark Smith, also of Glasgow.
Allen was treated at the hospital for pain in her chest and leg. A passenger in the Allen vehicle, Scarlet Allen, was also treated for chest and arm injuries. Smith was treated for head, shoulder and knee pain.
The crash was investigated by Barren County Sheriff's Deputy Kevin Wilson who was assisted by Special Deputy Shannon White, the Barren-Metcalfe EMS and the South Barren VFD.

Barren County Man dead in single vehicle crash¬Ý¬Ý¬Ý¬Ý¬Ý¬Ý¬Ý¬Ý¬Ý¬Ý¬Ý
Wednesday morning Barren County Sheriff's Deputies responded to Bon Ayr Road in reference to a single vehicle accident that occurred overnight.
Upon arrival it was determined that 39-year-old Glen D. Kendrick, of Bon Ayer, was driving his 2006 Dodge pickup North on Bon Ayr Road when the tires dropped off the right side of the roadway. Kendrick’Äôs vehicle then traveled back across the road, overturned several times and came to rest on its top in a cornfield.
Kendrick was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene by Barren County Coroner Mike Swift. Evidence at the scene might suggest alcohol as a contributing factor to the crash.
The incident was investigated by Deputy Steve Runyon, who was assisted by Barren County Coroner Mike Swift, the Barren-Metcalfe EMS and the South Barren VFD.

Monroe County woman injured
A Monroe County woman was injured Monday morning in a single vehicle accident approximately 5 miles South of Glasgow on Highway 249. 24-year-old Brittany L. Brownlee of Tompkinsville was traveling North when her 2003 Honda Pilot hydroplaned causing her to lose control of the vehicle which left the right side of the roadway striking an embankment before coming to rest. Brownlee, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered injuries to her head and neck and was transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital by the Barren-Metcalfe EMS.
The accident was investigated by Barren County Sheriff’Äôs Deputy Steve Runyon who was assisted by Deputy Shannon White, the Temple Hill VFD and Barren-Metcalfe EMS.

Two Barren County Correctional Center inmates face additional charges
On Thursday, July 31, deputies with the Barren County Correctional Center, along with deputies from the Barren County Sheriff's Department, responded to a cellblock inside the jail in reference to a suspicious burning odor. Once inside the facility deputies searched the cell finding several burnt places on the walls and windows of the cellblock. Deputies also found lighters, tobacco and other illegal contraband in the bunk and on the person of 47-year-old Joseph W. Shugart of Glasgow. Shugart was charged with Promoting Contraband in the 1st degree, a class one felony.
Upon further investigation, 24-year-old Joshua C. Whitlow of Glasgow was charged with Criminal Mischief in the 3rd degree due to a mattress and sheet being burned which was issued to hime by the Barren County Correctional Center.
Steve Runyon investigated and was assisted by Captain Davidson and Deputies Jones, White, Fletcher, Elmore, Davidson and Crocket with the Barren County Correctional Center.

Two injured in traffic mishap
The Barren County Sheriff's Department is investigating a two-vehicle crash which occurred at the intersection of New Bowling Green Road and Highway 255. A 2004 Ford pickup driven by Anthony Cummings of Glasgow was traveling East on New Bowling Green Road when a 1998 Ford passenger car driven by Barbara Healy of Smiths Grove pulled from the intersection into the path of the Cummings vehicle. Following impact the Cummings vehicle crossed the intersection and ran into the store building of the Bon Ayre Store.
Healy was air lifted by Life Net Helicopter from the scene to the University of Louisville Hospital where she is listed in critical condition. Cummings was transported by the Barren-Metcalfe EMS.
Deputy J.D. Walden investigated and was assisted by the Barren-Metcalfe EMS and members of the South Barren VFD.

Capture of escaped juvenile leads to recovery of stolen property
On Sunday afternoon the Barren County Sheriff's Department responded to a location West of Glasgow on the Bowling Green Road in reference to a juvenile that had escaped from a Simpson County Sheriff's deputy.
Upon arrival the juvenile was located, taken into custody and transported to the Barren County Sheriff's Department. He was interviewed at that time and confessed to several thefts from vehicles on Denton Road, Oak Grove Church Road and Dripping Springs Road.
As a result of this investigation The Barren County Sheriff's Department recovered approximately $1,300 of stolen tools.
A juvenile petition was signed for Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia 1st, Theft by Unlawful Taking over $300... two counts and Theft by Unlawful Taking Under $300... three counts. The juvenile is wanted in Simpson County for Escape in the Third Degree, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia 1st, Theft by Unlawful Taking Under $300, Receiving Stolen Property Under $300 and Cultivation of Marijuana Less Than Five Plants.

Burglary leads to Barren County man's arrest and juvenile in custody
On Tuesday, July 8, shortly before noon deputies from the Barren County Sheriff's Department responded to a residence on Renick Road in the Cave City area regarding a burglary.
Upon arrival deputies obtained evidence leading to a residence on South Toohey Road and then to E.P. Terry Estates in Cave City where they made contact with Andrew W. Olin, 22 of Cave City, and a juvenile.
While being interviewed both Olin and the juvenile confessed to breaking into the residence on Renick Road and stealing several guns. The investigation led deputies back to South Toohey Road where they recovered the stolen guns from the attic of the residence.
Olin was arrested and charged with Burglary In The 1st Degree, Unlawful Transaction With A Minor 2nd Degree and Criminal Mischief In The 3rd Degree and was lodged in the Barren County Correctional Center. The Court Designated Worker, Jennifer Poynter, was notified on the juvenile offender and a petition was filed with charges of Burglary In The 1st Degree and Criminal Mischief In The 3rd Degree.

Two of Barren County's Most Wanted captured
Two members of the Barren County Most Wanted list were captured over the holiday weekend. After receiving information that David Price and Jewell Mendoza were living at a residence on Pleasant Valley Church Road in Metcalfe County, Barren County Sheriff's deputies, assisted by the Metcalfe County Sheriff's Department, apprehended the two suspects without incident.
Two warrants were served on David Price’Ķ a bench warrant from Barren County and a Green County warrant for probation violation. Approximately 16 warrants were served on Jewell Mendoza.
Deputies Steve Clark, Dan Blair and Kevin Wilson executed the warrants at the Barren County Jail.

Shooting leads to charge of attempted murder
Just before midnight Friday emergency personnel were dispatched to a residence on Tompkinsville Road in Barren County in reference to an altercation that resulted in a shooting. 31-year-old Wendy Morgan, of Glasgow, had received a single gun shot wound to the leg. Morgan was transported by the Barren-Metcalfe EMS to T.J. Samson Hospital where she was treated and released.
Alfrado Calihua, 27 of Glasgow, was charged with Attempted Murder (Domestic Violence) and five counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree. Calihua was arrested and lodged in the Barren County Jail.

Tip leads to marijuana bust of Glasgow man
An anonymous tip to the Barren County Sheriff's Office Sunday led deputies to a residence on Winn School Road in search of marijuana. Deputies discovered 30 marijuana plants growing on the back porch of the home of 27-year-old Terry Gene Stevens II. Stevens was not at home at the time.
Deputies obtained a search warrant for the interior of the home and discovered drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana. During an interrogation on Monday afternoon Stevens confessed to growing the marijuana and possessing the drug paraphernalia.
Deputy Kevin Wilson investigated and was assisted by Deputies Matt Mutter, Steve Runyon and Adam Minor.

Warren County man in critical condition following motorcycle crash
Shortly after 9:00 a.m. Sunday deputies from the Barren County Sheriff's Department responded to an accident on Scottsville Road approximately eight miles South of Glasgow.
Upon arriving on the scene the deputy determined that 26-year-old Joshua M. Martin of Bowling Green was riding his 2007 Suzuki motorcycle with friends. They passed an automobile and it appears Martin's motorcycle ventured too close to the right shoulder of the highway and he lost control in loose gravel. Martin, who was wearing a helmet, overturned several times and struck a guardrail before coming to rest.
Martin was treated at the scene for multiple injuries and flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville via StatCare. He is listed in critical condition.
The accident was investigated by Deputy Steve Runyon. He was assisted in the investigation by the Haywood VFD, Barren-Metcalfe EMS and StatCare.

One dead in Coral Hill Road accident
(5-30-08) A single vehicle accident resulted in the death of 72-year-old Betty H. Byrd of Glasgow Thursday. Byrd was driving her Dodge Caravan on Coral Hill Road approximately 4.5 miles north of Glasgow when she lost control and went left the roadway. The van struck a mailbox, then a bridge and traveled down an embankment and overturned into a creek. Byrd's body was extricated from the vehicle by the Barren/Metcalfe EMS and Hisevville VFD. An autopsy was planned to determine the cause of death.

Tip leads to drug related arrest
An anonymous call to the Sheriff's Tip-Line led Barren County Sheriffs deputies, along with the Barren County Drug Task Force, to 505 Tick Ridge Road in Glasgow, Kentucky in reference to a complaint of possible drug activity. Deputies arrived at the scene and spoke with Michael Edward Andrews who lives at the residence. Deputies obtained consent to search the residence and during the search discovered a large amount of marijuana, an assortment of pills, cocaine, and drug paraphernalia. Andrews, 29, was charged with Trafficking In Marijuana Under Eight Ounces, Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Cocaine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia 1st, and Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd. Andrews was lodged in the Barren County Correctional Center.

$1,000 Reward offered in Green Leaf break-ins
The Barren County Sheriff's Department is offering a $1,000 Reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved in two recent break-ins at Green Leaf Nursery on 31-E.
The first break-in occurred during the late night hours of May 14th or early morning hours of the 15th. The second occurred the evening of May 25th or early the following morning. Subjects entered through a window at the rear of the building and took a small floor safe.

$1,000 Reward offered in truck theft
The Barren County Sheriff's Department is investigation the theft of a 1989 GMC truck which was taken from Best Buy Auto on Scottsville Road sometime during the night of May 24 or the early morning of May 25. Based on evidence at the scene deputies believe the perpetrators cut the fence, forced their way into the truck and drove it away.
A short time later the truck was recovered a short distance from the scene of the crime with a damaged door latch and steering column. The investigation continues and a $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator/perpetrators of this theft.

Illegal drugs at residence lead to arrest
On Sunday, January 13, the Barren County Sheriff's Office received a complaint of illegal drugs at a Kino Road residence. Upon arrival Deputy Matt Mutter made contact with 51-year-old Michael Russell. Russell gave Mutter consent to search the residence and a small baggie of suspected methamphetamine was found in a bathroom. Russell claimed ownership of the baggie and was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st degree. Russell was lodged in the Barren County Correctional Center.

Greg's Auto Performance burglary solved
On Sunday, January 13, a Cave City man was charged with a burglary that occurred in August, 2007. Greg's Auto Performance of Happy Valley Road was burglarized and several tools were stolen. Blood evidence was left at the scene and collected by Deputy Matt Mutter. 30-year-old Clifford Judy confessed to the burglary/theft after Deputy Mutter and Detective Rusty Anderson collected a DNA sample from him. Having the number on the trucks will give the citizens more opportunity to contact the Sheriff's Office to report crimes in the county.
